Flupren MS is a long-acting depot antipsychotic injection used in the maintenance treatment of schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders where oral compliance is a concern. Flupentixol decanoate is a thioxanthene derivative that works by blocking dopamine D1 and D2 receptors in the brain, reducing psychotic symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, and disorganised thinking. The decanoate ester form ensures a slow, sustained release over 2–4 weeks following a single deep intramuscular injection, improving treatment adherence. It must be administered by a healthcare professional and is indicated for use under psychiatric supervision.
